FeriBazaar's Website Is Getting a New Avatar — Here's What Changes

The website is being rebuilt around one question: what is the shortest honest path between opening this site and finding a vendor near you? Here is what we are designing for, what already works today, and what the new site deliberately will not do.

FeriBazaar.com website coming soon in a new avatar — the redesigned homepage shown on a desktop screen beside an illustrated street market

If you have opened feribazaar.com in the last few days, you will have seen the banner: the website is getting a new avatar.

This is a rebuild, not a coat of paint. The pages you use today will still be there, the links you have saved will still work, and nothing you already rely on is being taken away. What changes is how quickly the site gets you to the thing you actually came for — a vendor, near you, selling what you need today.

We are not announcing a date. A date announced early is a date that slips, and we would rather ship the new site when it is genuinely faster than tell you a Tuesday and miss it. What we can do is be specific about what we are designing for, and honest about where the current site falls short.

Why rebuild at all

The current website grew the way most early sites grow — page by page, as each one became necessary. That is not a criticism of it. It means there are real pages for real vendor categories and real cities, written to be useful rather than written to fill a template.

But growing that way leaves seams. Some pages assume you already know what a pheri wala is. Some assume you have the app. Some make you take four taps to reach a page that should have been the first thing you saw. And the whole thing was designed for a browser window before it was designed for the phone most of you are actually holding.

So the rebuild starts from the phone, and from one question: what is the shortest honest path between someone opening this site and someone finding a vendor?

What we are designing for

Speed on a cheap phone and a slow connection

This matters more than anything else on the list. A large share of the people this platform is built for are on entry-level Android phones, on mobile data that gets thin in the evening. A site that feels fine on office wifi can be unusable in a lane in Bijnor at 7pm.

The target is simple: the page you asked for should be readable before the decorative parts of it have finished loading. That means fewer images doing nothing, less script, and text that renders first.

Fewer taps between you and a vendor

Right now, finding a sabzi wala in Delhi on the website means understanding that there is a Sabzi Wala category page, and a Delhi city page, and that the two combine into Sabzi Wala in Delhi. Those pages all exist and all work — but you have to know the pattern to use it.

In the new site, that combination is the starting point, not something you assemble yourself. Pick what you want, pick where you are, and you are there.

The website should answer things without the app

The app does things a website cannot: live GPS tracking, a push notification when a vendor crosses into your 100m, 300m or 500m radius, reserving stock before the cart arrives. Those need a phone in your pocket. You can read the full list on the features page.

But plenty of what people want from us does not need any of that. Who sells vegetables in my area? Is there a doodh wala on this route? What does a vendor's profile actually look like before I commit to downloading anything? The website should answer all of that on its own, and it should be obvious that it can.

Hindi that is not an afterthought

Most pages already carry Hindi alongside English. In the rebuild that stops being a second line under the first and becomes a real choice you make once. The vocabulary of this business is Hindi — pheri wala, sabzi wala, thela, mandi — and the site should not translate around it.

A directory that stays honest

This is the constraint we are least willing to bend on. Every vendor listed on this site is a real vendor. We do not generate placeholder profiles to make the directory look fuller than it is, and we would rather a city page say plainly that we are still building coverage there than pad it with names that do not exist.

That means the new site will sometimes show you less than a competitor would. It will not show you anything that is not true.

What already works today

The new site is coming. The current one is not a placeholder in the meantime — a lot of it is genuinely useful right now, and some of it is not obvious unless someone points at it.

  • Browse by what you need. Every category has its own page — Sabzi Wala, Fruit Wala, Kapde Wala, Chai Wala, Street Food, and more on the full category list.
  • Browse by where you are. The cities page lists everywhere we currently have vendors, and each city has its own page.
  • Combine the two. Any category plus any city gives you a page of its own, like Sabzi Wala in Delhi.
  • Or just use your location. Pages like Sabzi Wala near me work from where you actually are.
  • Understand the platform before signing up for it. How FeriBazaar works walks through the whole flow, vendor side and customer side, in six steps.

If you are a vendor

None of this changes how you sell. Your profile, your route, your stock listing and your customers stay exactly as they are — the rebuild is to the public website, not to the tools you use every day.

What it should change is how easy you are to find. A cleaner, faster vendor page that loads properly on a customer's phone is worth more to you than any feature we could add to the app this quarter.

If you have not registered yet, the vendor page explains what is involved, and the hawker guide covers the practical side. Registration is free. If typing is the part that puts you off, read how voice listing works — you speak your stock list in Hindi instead of typing it. And if you want the fundamentals of building a route worth walking, this piece on getting more customers is the place to start.

If you are a customer

Nothing you have set up goes away. Your alerts, your followed vendors and your family alert settings all live in the app and are untouched by anything happening to the website.

If you are new here, the customer page is the short version and this guide to the app is the long one — it covers nine things most people never find, including scheduling a vendor visit and getting your whole colony to request the same vendor together. For picking good produce once the cart actually arrives, our Delhi vegetable guide is worth ten minutes.

What the new site will not do

Worth saying clearly, because "coming soon" invites people to imagine things.

It will not sell you anything. FeriBazaar is not a delivery app and the new website does not add a checkout — you still buy from the vendor, at the cart, the way you always have. It will not take payments, and it does not hold your money.

It will not become a review site with thousands of listings overnight. Coverage grows one real vendor at a time, city by city.

And it will not break your links. Any page that moves will redirect to its new address rather than dying, so anything you have bookmarked or shared keeps working.

Until then

The banner says coming soon and it means it — the work is underway, and we will write about what actually shipped once it has shipped, not before.

In the meantime: if you want to understand the business we are in, running a local business without a shop is the piece that explains the thinking behind all of it. The blog is where the next update will appear, and the app page has the download if you want the live alerts before the new site lands.

If there is something the current website makes hard and you want it fixed in the rebuild, tell us — the contact page reaches a person, and this is exactly the stage where that feedback is worth the most.
